Anna  Bakurova was born in 1979, in Ural, Russia, and grew up in Tajikistan, Central Asia.

After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Economics, she begins her professional career in the creative field: as a presenter and producer for the TRRC Tiroz, the first independent radio station in Tajikistan. Then comes a possibility to work as an interpreter in a international humanitarian organization, which brought the young woman face to face with the worst living conditions, poverty, and reflections on morality, despair and hope. First works appear in the intervals between her work assignments.

In 2002, Anna moves to Haiti, where she devotes herself to painting.  Vibrant art scene of Haiti and encouragements of local artists allow Anna Bakurova to experiment and look for her own personal style.

In 2007, Anna  Bakurova moves to Switzerland. A fan of the Russian avant-garde, Anna has been experimenting with different artistic styles: Fauvism, Expressionism and Cubism, although she does not identify herself with any of schools. The combination of Western art movements with the obvious influence of Oriental mosaics and ornaments, produces colorful multidimensional works, reflecting a kaleidoscope of her inner feelings.

Since 2015 she lives in Burgundy, France.
